I am a classically trained pianist who started teaching out of high school, and dove into full time teaching in 2008 . I enjoy working with children and making piano interesting, challenging and fun for them. I have an eclectic taste in the spectrum that is music, but my all-time favorite pieces come from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods. My favorite composers are J.S. Bach, L. Beethoven, F. Chopin and P. Tchaikovsky. I also teach popular music, how to read and make arrangements from lead sheets, and really anything the students bring to me that they want to learn. The most important key to teaching children is finding something the they really want to learn. Once we find 'the one", the student's mastery and musicality grows in leaps and bounds and they begin to build their repertoire.

I start the beginner student with the Hal Leonard teaching method and move into the Faber & Faber method for intermediate students. For advanced students, we take on long term Classical projects from the great composers. I also teach by playing method. In regards to technique, we explore the easier works of Carl Czerny for finger dexterity and bonus sight reading, easy Hanons by heart and for advanced students, we coordinate scales in respective keys to the pieces they're playing, also by heart.

Due to the pandemic shuttering my in-person teaching in the Spring of 2020, I taught on Zoom for 18 months and improved greatly, despite the challenges of remote teaching. Teaching online has become a permanent tool in my tool belt for making up missed lessons, teaching children across the world and for instances when we have to go back to online learning due to COVID surges.

The benefits of learning piano are many, including to hand eye-coordination, attention spans, posture, musicality and enriching musical culture.
